Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Chiropractic Care

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care focuses on assessing and managing musculoskeletal concerns—such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, and movement restrictions—using a combination of hands-on care, exercise rehabilitation, and education.

Can chiropractic care help me?

It may help if your symptoms are related to joints, muscles, or movement. The best way to know is through an assessment, where we’ll discuss your goals and determine whether our care is appropriate—or whether referral is the better option.

Is chiropractic care safe?

Chiropractic care is generally considered safe when delivered by a trained, licensed provider and when it’s tailored to the individual. We screen for contraindications, adapt techniques to your comfort and history, and discuss options before any treatment.

Does chiropractic treatment hurt?

Most techniques shouldn’t be painful. You may feel pressure, stretching, or mild soreness afterward—similar to what you might feel after exercise. If something feels uncomfortable, we can modify or stop at any time.

Will you “crack” my back or neck?

Not necessarily. Some people prefer joint manipulation, while others prefer gentler approaches. We can use alternatives such as mobilization, soft-tissue techniques, guided exercises, and self-management strategies—based on what’s appropriate and what you’re comfortable with.

Is the “popping” sound necessary for results?

No. That sound (when it occurs) is not the goal and isn’t required for care to be helpful.

What conditions do you commonly see?

We commonly see concerns like low back pain, neck pain and stiffness, headache-related concerns, shoulder/hip discomfort, joint stiffness, sports overuse issues, posture-related strain, and radiating symptoms (like tingling or numbness) where appropriate to assess.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on the condition, how long it’s been present, your goals, and how you respond. After your assessment, we’ll outline a plan and re-check progress regularly.

Do you give exercises or stretches?

Often, yes. Exercises are commonly used to improve strength, mobility, and long-term symptom control between visits.

When should I not book a chiropractic appointment?

If you have severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, significant trauma, unexplained fever, chest pain, sudden weakness/numbness, difficulty speaking, or loss of bowel/bladder control, seek urgent medical care. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll advise next steps.

What to expect & treatment planning

Will I get treatment on the first visit?

Often yes, if it’s appropriate and you consent. In some cases, we may focus on assessment first or recommend referral/testing before starting treatment.

How do you decide what treatment I need?

We use your history, examination findings, and goals to guide the plan. We also consider comfort, preferences, and any relevant medical factors.

How will you measure progress?

Progress may be tracked using symptom changes, movement testing, functional goals (e.g., walking, lifting, sport), and your ability to tolerate activity.

What if I don’t improve as expected?

If progress is slower than expected, we’ll adjust the plan, re-assess contributing factors, and discuss alternatives—including referral if needed.

Will I be given exercises or a home plan?

Often yes. Home exercises and self-management strategies are commonly used to support long-term outcomes.

Can chiropractic care be combined with gym training or physical therapy?

Yes. Many people combine care with strength training or physiotherapy/physical therapy. We can help you progress activity safely and coordinate where needed.

Is soreness normal after treatment?

Mild soreness can occur, especially early on or after new activity. It should settle within a short period. If symptoms feel unusual or significantly worse, contact the clinic.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance care?

Some people choose periodic check-ins, while others stop once goals are met. We can discuss what makes sense for your situation without pressure to continue.

Treatments & Therapies

Do you offer treatment plans?

Recommendations are based on your presentation and goals. If a plan is suggested, we’ll explain the rationale, expected timeframes, and how progress will be reviewed.

Do you provide massage therapy?

If massage is part of your services, we may include soft-tissue techniques within an appointment or recommend a separate service where appropriate.

What is dry needling, and is it right for me?

Dry needling uses a fine needle to target muscle tension and trigger points. It may help some people with muscle-related pain or restricted movement. Suitability depends on your assessment, health history, and preference.

What is shockwave therapy used for?

Shockwave therapy is sometimes used for persistent tendon or soft-tissue conditions. We’ll advise if it’s appropriate based on your exam findings and symptom history.

What is ultrasound therapy used for?

Therapeutic ultrasound may be used to support short-term symptom relief in certain soft-tissue presentations. It’s typically an adjunct to active rehabilitation rather than a standalone solution.

Can I choose which therapy I receive?

We’ll recommend options based on your assessment, but your preferences matter. If you’d like to avoid or prioritize a specific approach, tell us and we’ll tailor the plan where clinically appropriate.

Do you treat sports injuries and overuse issues?

Yes, we commonly see activity-related pain and load-management problems. Care often includes assessment, rehab progressions, and return-to-activity planning.

Do you work with other healthcare providers?

Yes. If needed, we can coordinate with your GP/primary care, physiotherapist/physical therapist, or specialist, and provide notes or updates when appropriate.
